Who We Are

A Lillian Spibey Photography Holiday, planned by Lillian Spibey and Charlie Mitford, is the experience of a lifetime. These two friends and colleagues have lived, photographed, and enjoyed the European lifestyle for many years and are eager to introduce you to the places they love – along with first-class Lillian Spibey Photography tuition.

Lillian Spibey Photography has offered photography holidays in Europe since 2015. Both Lillie and Charlie fully embrace the local cultures and have created an unforgettable experience for photography vacation guests. Charlie has lived, worked, explored, socialised, and brought up a family in Italy for 18 years. She’s enviably well-connected with address books crammed with the local movers and shakers – politicians, restaurateurs, hoteliers, aristocrats, and farmers! Lillie studied, lived and worked as a photographer in Cortona, Perugia and Rome, and now runs her successful photography business in Surrey, England.

Even locals are amazed at the access afforded to our photography holiday guests! For many years, Charlie and her husband, Paul, an estate agent, and Lillie and her husband, Daniel, a property investor, explored the Italian countryside in search of tumbled ruins for renovation. The two couples’ resultant knowledge of the area is exceptional; in fact, Charlie has an uncanny gift for finding and gaining access to locations that are so far off the tourist trail that for all intents and purposes they don’t exist!

Our Photography Holiday History

Lillie and Charlie have been offering bespoke photography holidays since 2015. They soon recognised that there’s many photography holidays using iconic ‘instagrammable’ locations but few going behind the scenes providing a learning vacation experience that is engaging, well off-the tourist trodden path and very importantly includes that crucial ‘fun’ element – in other words, learning photography in a social everyday real world!

So, they put their heads and their collective talents together and came up with the idea of combining teaching and travel into an unforgettable learning experience. Each Lillian Spibey photography vacation not only cements the fundamentals of photography in each participant’s mind, but allows everyone that chance to explore and photograph true hidden gems that only locals ever see and make lifelong friends in the process.

  • "I had a wonderful time in Cortona. This is a great course for all levels. It was relaxed and fun with plenty of lovely food and wine from the local area.  The group was a great mix of people from all walks of life. We had plenty of time to play around with different settings on our cameras as well as visiting some very interesting places in and around the local area, which has a very rich history."

  • "Personal attention throughout the day…whatever your ability Lillie was there to help…I found out about the Italian course next year just yesterday and booked it at once….This is not to be missed."

  • "Thank you so much for organising and running such a brilliant photography holiday in Tuscany last week. I had the most amazing time, thanks to the time and effort both you and Charlie put into the week.  I loved all the activities and the chance to try taking such a variety of photographs and it made such a difference having Charlie’s local knowledge and ability to speak fluent Italian.  I still can’t quite believe how much we packed into every day.  Getting back to work has been a real shock to the system!"

  • "Just a quick note to you and Charlie and Daniel to say thank you for a great few days. Even as a non-photographer, I had a great time! Arezzo, the island and then the ancient apartment were the highlights for me. But the whole trip was fab."

  • "One of the reasons I enjoy the Cortona trips so much, is not just that its a beautiful town in a stunning setting but the variety of things that we get up to. Photographing water, vineyards (with associated tasting) olive oil tasting, tours round amazing houses, Cities like Arezzo, Perugia etc….Every day is different."
